The break stays where it broke.
Floris Wamelink casts, presses and burns material until the making shows, then builds the result into rooms you stand inside rather than look at.
The practice
Most making removes its own traces. The sanding, the finishing, the smoothing over. What is left is an object that arrives as if it had always existed.
This work goes the other way. The fray stops where it stopped. The patina, the scratches and the hand are the record of a thing having happened, and removing them removes the only honest part.
It runs from a graduation installation you can stand inside, through furniture built from decks already ridden to failure, to garments pulled back to their threads. Increasingly it runs into film.
